Why Laundry Access Matters for Families Facing Hardship: Love Loads

Laundry can become a serious expense when a household is already choosing between food, fuel, rent, medicine, and transportation. For someone without a washer and dryer—or someone living in a vehicle or temporary lodging—clean clothing can require money, transportation, detergent, and several hours at a laundromat.

Clean clothes are more than appearance

Laundry affects hygiene, confidence, school attendance, job interviews, workplace readiness, and social connection. A clean work uniform can help someone keep a shift. Clean bedding can improve rest. Clean children’s clothing can reduce embarrassment and help a family preserve normalcy during a difficult season.

What is Love Loads?

Love Loads is Held By Love’s laundry-assistance concept. The goal is to connect participating laundromats, donors, volunteers, and community partners so people facing hardship can receive practical laundry help with dignity.

How laundromats can become community partners

A laundromat may participate in many ways: donated wash credits, designated sponsored loads, a monthly community laundry event, matching donations, detergent support, referral partnerships, or simply helping identify the most workable local model.

Why small assistance can have a large effect

A laundry payment may not look like a housing intervention, but stability is often built from small barriers being removed one by one. When a household does not have to spend its last cash on laundry, that money can go toward fuel, food, medication, identification, or another urgent need.

Held By Love is seeking laundromats and community partners interested in helping grow Love Loads. Learn more at heldbylove.org.
