The Tree of Life

More Than Shelter. A Pathway Forward.

Colorful Tree of Life for Held by Love Community Outreach

The Tree of Life is Held by Love’s vision for a compassionate pathway that helps people move from survival to stability, from stability to purpose, and from purpose to belonging.

Too often, people experiencing homelessness are asked to solve one crisis at a time while carrying the weight of many barriers at once — no safe place to sleep, missing identification, transportation problems, limited access to hygiene and laundry, difficulty finding work, and nowhere stable from which to begin again.

The Tree of Life is designed to connect those broken pieces.

Rather than offering a single service and sending someone back into the same circumstances, the vision is to create a four-stage pathway where immediate needs are met first, barriers are removed, stability is strengthened, and people are supported as they rebuild their lives.

We are beginning with the roots.

Programs such as Safe Harbor, Love Loads, and ID Recovery are practical first steps that can begin helping people now while laying the foundation for something much larger.

Because sometimes changing a life does not begin with a house.

Sometimes it begins with a safe night, clean clothes, an identification card, someone who believes in you — and a place to begin again.

Tree of Life The Four-Stage Pathway

Safe Harbor

A safe place to park tonight can become the first step toward a safer tomorrow.
Why it matters:
Rest is hard to find when survival requires constantly wondering where you are allowed to sleep.

Love Loads

Clean clothes restore more than appearance — they restore dignity, confidence, and possibility.
Why it matters:
Something as simple as laundry can affect employment, health, self-worth, and whether someone feels seen.

ID Recovery

Rebuilding a life often begins with proving who you are.
Why it matters:
Without identification, doors to employment, housing, benefits, banking, and other essential services can remain closed.

These are not isolated programs. They are the first roots of a larger pathway — practical interventions designed to remove the barriers that keep people trapped in crisis.

The Future Community

Where the Pathway Can Eventually Lead

Colorful Tree of Life Future Community

The long-term vision for The Tree of Life is a restorative community where people can move beyond the constant instability of crisis and begin rebuilding with safety, dignity, opportunity, and support. It is envisioned as a place where housing, practical resources, relationships, and pathways forward are connected rather than scattered across disconnected systems.
Over time, the hope is to create a community that supports people as they move from
stability into purpose — through opportunities for employment, skills development, mentoring, transportation, food production, shared spaces, and meaningful ways to contribute. The goal is not simply to provide somewhere to stay, but to create an environment where people can begin building a life they have reason to believe in.
At its heart, The Tree of Life is a vision of
belonging: a community where people are not defined by the crisis that brought them there, but are given the time, support, relationships, and opportunity to grow beyond it — and, when they are ready, to help strengthen the community for those who come after them.

What We're Building Now

Growing the First Roots

The Tree of Life is a long-term vision, but we are starting with practical steps that help people now. Held by Love is building the partnerships, programs, and support systems needed to address barriers that keep people in crisis.

Our first priorities are Safe Harbor, Love Loads, and ID Recovery, along with relationships with local organizations, churches, businesses, volunteers, mentors, and host sites. We are also seeking fiscal sponsorship, seed funding, and guidance in insurance, legal structure, safety, and partnerships.

We are not building everything at once—we are starting with roots: small programs that can be tested, improved, and expanded over time.

The vision is large. The first steps are practical. Every strong tree begins with roots.

The Tree of Life will grow through people who believe that no one should have to rebuild alone. Right now, Held by Love is seeking partners, supporters, volunteers, and community members who can help turn practical first steps into lasting change.

You can help by supporting programs such as Safe Harbor, Love Loads, and ID Recovery, offering a potential host site, connecting us with local businesses or organizations, volunteering your time or professional skills, mentoring someone on their journey, or helping provide the funding and resources needed to launch these first roots responsibly.

Whether you give, serve, connect, advocate, or open a door, your part matters.

The Tree of Life will not be built all at once. It will grow one root, one relationship, and one restored life at a time.
